Gareth Edwards’s ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff Film Gets a Title

We’ve known for a while that between “Episodes” in the main story, Disney would be putting out “Spinoff” movies set in the Star Wars universe. We’ve also known that the first of these will be written by Chris Weitz and directed by Gareth Edwards.

Well, now we know a bit more.

According to io9, during Disney’s shareholders call today Bob Iger revealed that the film would be titled Rogue One and will star Felicity Jones.

The title is an obvious reference to the Rebel’s Rogue Squadron, as “Rogue One” is the call sign used by both Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles at different points in the films and expanded universe. This also makes it unlikely that the film will center around bounty hunters like some previous rumors suggested.
