Syfy Renews ‘Killjoys’ and ‘Dark Matter,’ No Word Yet On ‘Defiance’

Syfy brought back Sci Fi/Syfy Friday this year, and it featured two new shows, Killjoys and Dark Matter (alongside returning series Defiance). Well, the two freshman shows seem to have done pretty well (or at least well enough), as Syfy has renewed both of them.

It’s interesting, because while I have developed a deep love of Dark Matter, none of it is because I think the show is any good. It’s writing is fairly weak, and continues to prove that series co-creator Joe Mallozzi hasn’t met a sci fi cliche he didn’t like. What’s saved the show for me is the performance of the cast.

Killjoys fairs better plot wise (and I’m actually very interested to find out where it’s going), but the characterization is only saved by Aaron Ashmore’s innate charm. I think Killjoy‘s would actually be more enjoyable for me if it were a worse show.

…wow, that sounded really negative. Especially since I go out of my way to watch the shows every week.

No word yet on whether or not Defiance will receive a fourth season, but it would be a shame if it didn’t. I argue that Defiance is actually the strongest series on the network right now, and it would be a shame to see it go. Hopefully we’ll get word soon.
