Anime Matsuri Has Not Been Making Any Friends

Back in July, we reported that multiple women had accused Anime Matsuri co-founder John Leigh of sexual harassment. The entire situation is a mess, and Leigh, frankly, seems like a giant creep.

Well (and I didn’t know it was possible) it seems like things are even worse at Anime Matsuri than just having a creepo in charge. The Houston Press has put up a lengthy, in depth piece on the bizarre drama that surrounds the Houston anime con.

You should really just read the article, but highlights include (besides the sexual harassment allegations) Anime Matsuri organizers promising free admission to another con (without consulting that other con’s organizers), drafting guests into hosting events without actually asking, not paying bills, and more legal issues than most cons ever deal with.

It’s amazing.

Again, read the piece. A con has to be incredibly screwed up to attracted the attention of the mainstream press, and… well… this one did.

Trae Dorn has been staffing conventions for over twenty-five years. They also wrote and drew the now completed webcomic UnCONventional, and produce the podcasts BS-Free Witchcraft, On This Day With Trae, Stormwood & Associates, The Meatgrinder, and The Nerd & Tie Podcast. This leads many to ask how the heck they have the time to get it all done. Trae says they have the time because they “do it all quite poorly.”
