‘Star Trek Beyond’ Wraps Principal Photography

Star Trek Beyond, the third installment in the rebooted Star Trek film series, has had a rockier road than most would have expected. The film was originally slated to have a completely different creative team than what we ended up with (seriously, just check our Robert Orci tag for some of that circus), and some of us are still a bit worried with Paramount’s edict to try for a ‘Guardians’ style movie. It’s also had its release date pushed back because of IMAX screen availability.

Well, the film has finally made it through shooting, as Simon Pegg’s official twitter account tweeted a photo of Pegg and his co-writer Doug Jung announcing the filming’s completion.

Personally, I’m excited for Beyond. I have faith in Pegg as a writer, and I think he has a strong grip on the Trek franchise. I’ve always felt with the previous two films (written by Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci) that they made a great movie on accident (Star Trek 2009) and the second movie proved how little they understood the source material (Star Trek into Darkness). Star Trek Beyond has a shot at getting this thing back on track.

Star Trek Beyond comes out July 22nd 2016.
