‘The Mary Sue’ Responds to MRA Group’s Ridiculous Calgary Expo “Lawsuit”

You may recall that last April a group of (mostly women) Men’s Rights Activists known as the ‘Honey Badger Brigade’ were ejected from the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo because they had registered for a table under false pretenses and were selling pro-#GamerGate merchandise (and Calgary Expo classifies as a hate group). After the Honey Badgers were ejected, The Mary Sue picked up on the story, and the rest of the internet had a good laugh.

Because when bad things happening to MRAs it’s funny.

But because MRAs groups also don’t know when to quit (and know how easy it is to bilk other MRAs out of money), the Honey Badgers started a “legal fund” to raise money to sue the Calgary Expo and The Mary Sue. I mean sure they had no legal leg to stand on, but when has that ever stopped stupid people?

In the end, they raised over $30,000, hired a disbarred lawyer (no, seriously), and filed… something (?) against the Calgary Expo and (again – for no logical reason) the blog The Mary Sue a few months ago.

And now The Mary Sue’s lawyers have responded, and it’s hilarious.

We only know what The Mary Sue’s lawyers sent back to the Honey Badger Brigade because the Honey Badgers posted it themselves. If you don’t want to visit that cesspool of a website, we’ve mirrored it here.

While we pointed out last time we talked about this the fact that The Mary Sue is an American publication publishing in America (so Canada would be the wrong country to sue them in), The Mary Sue’s lawyers found a bigger problem with the Honey Badger Brigade’s allegations: The space time continuum.

You see, the Honey Badgers are claiming that an article published on The Mary Sue got them expelled from the convention, but there’s a bit of a problem with that — mainly the fact that the aforementioned article on The Mary Sue was published after the eviction. It’s pretty hard to argue that something that happened after the fact could somehow be responsible for the original incident, right?

Well, for those of us with working brains that’s the case at least.

Logic and reason haven’t stopped the Honey Badgers, and while you could wade through that earlier linked post to see their reactions (and doubling down on their own ridiculousness), you might instead want to read the write up over at We Hunted the Mammoth. It’s got jokes.

This whole thing is a bizarre exercise in idiocy, and I’d like to say that I’m shocked that it’s still happening. I’m not though, because if there’s anything I’ve learned over the years, it’s that you should never underestimate someone with a bruised ego’s ability to double down on being wrong and that MRAs are always willing to pay lots of money to fund the stupidity of other MRAs.

I’m honestly not sure if the Honey Badgers genuinely think they have a legal argument, or if this is just a childish tantrum. Maybe it’s some weird publicity attempt, or they see it as an opportunity to get money out of their “brethren.” Hell, it’s probably all of those things.

But it’s stupid.

  • The idiocy shines strong with you, what a pathetic uniformed smear piece.

I do admire their fierce loyalty to the men that hate them. They can’t say their men didn’t warn them that logic and rational thought wasn’t their strong suit. Now get back in the kitchen you thilly goothes. Or should I say thilly badgers.
