Ryan Coogler Will Direct ‘Black Panther’

Black Panther is one of the more interesting films coming from Marvel over the next few years, with the character (played by Chadwick Boseman) first appearing in this spring’s upcoming Captain America: Civil War. We’ve known for a while who was writing the film, and we’ve also seen the release date move — but the director of the project has been an open question.

Well, until now.

Marvel has announced that Ryan Coogler has been tapped to direct Black Panther. Coogler is best known to audiences as the director of Creed, the recent spinoff of the Rocky franchise which saw critical acclaim (and won Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe). He only has a couple of films under his belt, but the ones he’s done are pretty solid.

Black Panther is currently scheduled for a February 16, 2018 release.

They also wrote and drew the now completed webcomic UnCONventional, and produce the podcasts BS-Free Witchcraft, On This Day With Trae, Stormwood & Associates, The Meatgrinder, and The Nerd & Tie Podcast. This leads many to ask how the heck they have the time to get it all done. Trae says they have the time because they “do it all quite poorly.”
