YourMiniCon Cancels Four More Conventions

Last month we reported that convention startup YourMiniCon had cancelled six of their twelve planned conventions. Well, things aren’t looking that great for YourMiniCon’s future, as they’ve now quietly cancelled four more events (without so much as an announcement this time), leaving them now with just two.

The cancelled cons include their Las Vegas, NV show (which was scheduled for March 5-6), along with their Colorado, Ohio and Louisiana cons. The only shows remaining are YourMiniCon Maine (currently scheduled for May 21-22) and YourMiniCon Connecticut (which already took place this year).

We spoke with YourMiniCon’s William Case earlier today over Skype, and according to him the decision was made because they are attempting to refocus on the East Coast. After practically nonexistent sales for the Nevada show, they recognized that they had tried to expand too quickly. He also stated that any ticket or booth sales from the cancelled conventions will be refunded.

Honestly, I think this is the right move for the company. Every region is different, and it’s difficult to integrate with so many con scenes at once. Hopefully they’ll be able to strike the correct balance going forward.

Trae Dorn

Trae Dorn has been staffing conventions for over twenty-five years. They also wrote and drew the now completed webcomic UnCONventional, and produce the podcasts BS-Free Witchcraft, On This Day With Trae, Stormwood & Associates, The Meatgrinder, and The Nerd & Tie Podcast. This leads many to ask how the heck they have the time to get it all done. Trae says they have the time because they “do it all quite poorly.”
