‘The Dark Tower’ Officially Casts Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey

The Dark Tower books by Stephen King are, for lack of a better phrase, f***ing weird. Regardless, people have been trying to adapt the series to screen on and off for what seems like forever. Things seemed to be stuck in development hell, right up until last summer when the film mysteriously appeared on Sony’s schedule.

Nikolaj Arcel is directing the film (co-writing alongside Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman, and Jeff Pinkner), but we finally have a bit of casting news.

We now know (for sure) who will be playing The Gunslinger and The Man in Black, as Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey have now been confirmed for the respective roles. This isn’t too much of a surprise, as rumors have been pointing in this direction for a while.

Frankly, I can’t see anyone better in either role.

Sony currently has The Dark Tower slotted for a January 13, 2017 release, though I’m betting that gets delayed.
