Peter Capaldi Will Leave ‘Doctor Who’ at the End of This Year

Peter Capaldi’s time on Doctor Who has been pretty impressive, and Series 9 was probably the strongest part of Steven Moffat’s soon ending run. But even though we still have Series 10 to look forward to with the twelfth Doctor, it appears it will be the last hurrah.

The BBC tweeted out the following earlier today:

The official Doctor Who Twitter went on to clarify that the 2017 Christmas Special was going to be his final episode in the role.

While this still means we have plenty of time with Capaldi’s Twelve, it’s sad to see him go. This means that as Steven Moffat steps down as showrunner, new showrunner Chris Chibnall will get to start with a fresh actor taking over our titular Timelord’s shoes. Honestly, I’m a little disappointed, as I would have loved to have seen what Capaldi and Chibnall could have done together.

Doctor Who series 10 begins airing April 15th.
