The Bumblebee Spin-Off Transformers Movie Has a Director (Who is Thankfully NOT Michael Bay)

Okay, so we never thought Michael Bay would direct the Bumblebee spin-off movie, but it’s just nice to think about finally getting a Transformers movie without him. It’s a wonderful feeling.

Anyway, as for who is directing the Bumblebee film, it’s been reported that Travis Knight is taking the reigns. Knight is probably best known for directing the Oscar-nominated animated film Kubo and the Two Strings, and this would be his live action debut.

The Bumblebee movie, which is disappointingly just being called Bumblebee, is the first foray into the Transformers cinematic universe outside the main line of films. Should this be successful, we may see other movies made about standout characters in the series who aren’t Bumblebee, Optimus Prime or Megatron.

…though I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

Bumblebee comes out June 8, 2018.
