DC and Warner Bros Developing Joker Origin Movie, Apparently Have Learned Nothing

Since the dawn of Nerd & Tie, we’ve made jokes about the “DC Carnival of Sadness.” We had been hoping that with Wonder Woman‘s success that we’d finally managed to pull out of it, but sadly we’re not sure that DC and Warner Bros have learned their lesson. You see, the latest news is that the studio is working on an origin movie for The Joker.

Yes, you read that right.

Warner Bros has tapped Todd Phillips and Scott Silver to write the script. Silver is probably best known for scripting 8 Mile, while Phillips’s best known credit is The Hangover. The Hangover is definitely… a movie? I mean, I don’t want to be too judgemental, but this doesn’t inspire a lot of faith in me.

Phillips is also currently slotted to direct the movie too.

On the upside Martin Scorsese is producing, and he’s best known for actually being Martin Scorsese. We also know that it won’t star Jared Leto, though we’re not sure if it’s because it won’t be set in the DCEU proper or if it’s just because it’s a prequel. As Leto’s version of The Joker is best described as “divisive,” this is probably best described as a positive.

But I guess I just have to ask, who actually wants this movie?

Trae Dorn has been staffing conventions for over twenty-five years. They also wrote and drew the now completed webcomic UnCONventional, and produce the podcasts BS-Free Witchcraft, On This Day With Trae, Stormwood & Associates, The Meatgrinder, and The Nerd & Tie Podcast. This leads many to ask how the heck they have the time to get it all done. Trae says they have the time because they “do it all quite poorly.”
