Gavin O’Connor Will Write and Direct ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel

To say that last year’s Suicide Squad was a pretty terrible movie is to put it lightly. Frankly, in retrospect the only reason the film seemed watchable at the time is because Batman v. Superman (which had come out earlier that year) was even worse. And while Wonder Woman had seemingly reversed the tide for the DCEU, their continued prior-momentum hasn’t exactly been changed.

Because Suicide Squad 2 is still happening.

The latest news on that front is that the film now has a writer and director. Since it was decided that the first movie’s director David Ayer would not return, Warner Bros has apparently tapped Gavin O’Connor to take on both duties for the film. O’Connor is probably best known for directing The Accountant, and considering his history with the studio seems like a logical choice. Unfortunately, no matter how good he is, it’s still a Suicide Squad sequel.

Suicide Squad 2 is expected to start shooting in the latter half of 2018.
