Category Archives: The Nerd & Tie Podcast

Updated fortnightly, the Nerd & Tie Podcast dives into our geeky world head first. Nick, Trae and Gen go into indepth discussions on all topics nerdy and geeky, and hope to come out with something interesting at the end. Usually they do.

Episode 91 – Titan Sized Edition

On the longest episode of Nerd & Tie so far, we mourn the passing of John Hurt, Warner Bros wants to make an American live action Attack on Titan, Star Wars Episode VIII finally has a title, the Axanar lawsuit has finally been settled, Jughead apparently isn’t asexual in Riverdale, Comic Excitement Convention flops, Phoenix Comicon has changed its staffing policies a second time, Angry Goat Productions is looking either incompetent or shady, and Evercon has filed for a restraining order against Scott Windorski.

This is a big one, so strap in.

Episode 90 – A Nerd Hope

On the latest episode of Nerd & Tie we start out by welcoming our newest host Gen Prock! After that we dig into the latest news, including how The CW has renewed all of their DC Comics shows, Constantine is coming back as an animated webseries, Charmed is getting rebooted for some reason, Awesome Games Done Quick has raised two million dollars for charity, Evercon booted artist/crafter Scott Windorski for harassment, Outlaw Comicon has lost its friggin’ mind, and Phoenix Comicon has made a controversial choice with its volunteer policies.

I mean, we definitely talk about Phoenix, AZ more than I’ve ever expected to.

Episode 89 – 2016 in Review

Hey everyone, it’s time for our annual year in review special, where we talk about the best and worst things that came out over the span of 2016. We go through our picks for movies, new television shows, video games, comics, conventions, and things to come out of Japan. It’s a pretty broad scope. Before that though, we take a moment to remember the late Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, who passed since our last episode.

Which is pretty damned sad.

This is also Pher’s last episode on the podcast, and we bid him a fond farewell.

That’s less sad, because Pher is still alive.

(This episode was sponsored by Paul Langland.)

Episode 88 – Space-Opera-Palooza

On this episode of Nerd & Tie (and its triumphant return to video), we discuss Sonequa Martin-Green’s casting as the lead in Star Trek: Discovery, David Ayer potentially directing Gotham City Sirens, discuss the amazing Rogue One, contemplate the official cancellation of the con Anime Apocalypse, and examine the trailers for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

We also take the time to mock Michael Bay, but only because he deserves it.

Episode 87 – Pop Goes the Bubble

On this episode of Nerd & Tie we mourn the loss of Ron Glass, explain Bryan Fuller’s departure from Star Trek: Discovery, rejoice in Lin Manuel Miranda’s involvement in the screen adaptation of The Kingkiller Chronicle, talk about Twin Cities Geek’s Holiday toy and book drive, and take a long hard look at whether or not the pop culture convention bubble might finally be bursting.

Yeah, that last one’s a big part of the episode.

Episode 86 – You Can’t Go Back Again

On this episode of Nerd & Tie we discuss The Inhumans hitting the small screen, Hayao Miyazaki coming out of retirement (again), react to the American Ghost in the Shell trailer, consider the new series Neil Gaiman is developing for Fox, and put our heads together about the possibility of a Snowpiercer television series. We also talk about what a disaster Rewind Con apparently turned out being, and Nick went to Daisho Con.

Also, Pher has a very important announcement about his future at Nerd & Tie. It’s a big deal.

Episode 85 – Battle Pants (The Pants You Battle)

On this episode of the Nerd & Tie Podcast: Bryan Fuller has stepped down as show runner for Star Trek: Discovery, DC’s Flash Movie has lost its second director, Young Justice is actually getting a third season, The Dark Tower is delayed until next summer, Wizard World is cutting back for 2017, Steve Wozniak’s Tokyo Comic Con takes a bad crossplay position (and then reverses it), and actor Ray Park was questioned by police for allegedly assaulting a woman at Super Megafest Comic Con.

Also, we talk a bit about Doctor Strange and the basic formula of lazy writers’ genre shows.

Episode 84 – Just Under The Wire

On this episode of Nerd & Tie, we talk about the SAG-AFTRA strike against the biggest video game companies out there, Tim Miller exiting Deadpool 2, Donald Glover getting cast as Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo anthology film, we let Nick talk about Shin Godzilla, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 gets a teaser, Logan gets a trailer, and Pher and Nick went to some conventions.

There’s a lot packed into this one.

Episode 83 – The Bare Minimum

On this episode of Nerd & Tie, Trae and Nick fly it alone without Pher (who was busy elsewhere — possibly arm wrestling with the Governor of Minnesota). We talk about the new Power Rangers trailer, how Wonder Woman is (finally) canonically queer, Iron Fist getting a release date, Ben Affleck’s Batman movie maybe (but probably not) having a title, the second Wine Country Comic Con, and how well the Nerd & Tie Expo went.

It’s a good time, trust us.

Episode 82 – Live at the Nerd & Tie Expo!

On this episode, recorded live at the first Nerd & Tie Expo, we mourn the loss of C. Martin Crocker, celebrate Tatiana Maslany’s Emmy win, stare blankly at the live action Ghost in the Shell teasers, discuss Peter Capaldi appearing on the upcoming Doctor Who spin off Class, consider the Black Lightning pilot ordered by Fox, and lament the delay of Star Trek: Discovery to next May.

We also do mailbag, respond to the audience, and Nick says something really weird in front of Voice Actress Tiffany Grant.

She was in the front row.
