The American Live Action ‘Akira’ Remake Just Will Not Die

Akira is probably one of the most influential animated films ever made. If I had to explain that to you though, you probably wouldn’t be reading Nerd & Tie in the first place.

Since 2008, Warner Bros has been trying to do a Live Action remake of the property – but things keep falling apart. And whenever they do, we kind of breathe a sigh of relief. I mean, Akira is a very Japanese film, and as the studio seems determined for the remake to be set in America and star a bunch of white people, the film just seems like an absolutely terrible idea.

But it keeps on trying to happen.

The latest news in the ongoing saga is that Warner Bros has dug the project out, dusted it off, and hired Marco J. Ramirez to write a script for the film.

Ramirez is notably the co-showrunner for Daredevil season 2, and while I’m sure he’ll do a decent job, why is this project even still happening? I mean, seriously Warner Bros, just let the blasted thing die already.
