On this episode of Nerd & Tie we visit the DC Carnival of Sadness with news that Supergirl will be a procedural and that Zack Snyder wants a dark, gritty Green Lantern (oh, and there’s some Brainiac stuff in there too). We look forward to Community‘s season 6 premiere date, contemplate the return of The X-Files, and sing for joy at Simon Pegg co-writing the next Star Trek.
Trae also went to Nezumi Con, and talks about his experiences.
And he sings “Shake It Off.” Which you can listen to whenever you want.
Or you can go play Ski Free.

Since we heard that Robert Orci was completely out of the third Abramsverse Star Trek film, the question “who will write the film?” has been kind of dangling out there. Well, it looks like we finally have an answer.
According to Deadline, Simon Pegg will be penning the script along with writer Doug Jung.
Simon Pegg, of course, we all know as Scotty in the rebooted franchise, but unless you’ve been living under a rock you’re familiar with some of his writing credits too (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Paul, The World’s End, etc). Doug Jung’s credits aren’t quite as impressive, but he’s written… stuff. Like Dark Blue.
Yeah it’s not exciting, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be up for the job.
Honestly, this gives me hope for the project. Pegg is a massive geek who I think truly understands the franchise. It’s kind of funny though to think that back when Abrams was rebooting the franchise, Pegg almost said no to playing Scotty because he thought it was too intimidating.
Now he’s writing the actual lines.
