It looks like The CW is far from done filling its lineup with comic book properties. Apparently not satisfied with six comic book shows (with two more on the way), the network is apparently now developing a series called Project 13 centered around the DC characters Traci Thirteen and her father Dr. Terrance Thirteen.
I have those numbers right, don’t I? I mean the network currently airs Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Riverdale, and iZombie, with Black Lightning coming soon an The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina arriving in 2018. Did I miss anything?
Anyway, Project 13 (as one would guess) will be centered around the paranormal. Elizabeth Banks (yes, that Elizabeth Banks) and Max Handelman will executive produce through their company Brownstone Productions. Daegan Fryklind will also serve as an executive producer, and is writing the project. Fryklind is probably best known for her work creating the television series Bitten (based off the book by Kelley Armstrong).
As we always warn, a show like this is still early in development and may never end up on screens. But man, this could be pretty cool if it does make it.
We’ve been pretty neutral to most of the casting for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot. I mean, we don’t have any problems with the people cast as the Rangers, it’s just that by necessity they’re mostly unknowns. It’s hard to form a strong opinion on people whose work you don’t know.
There is one particular bit that actually got me looking forward to this movie, and that’s when Elizabeth Banks was announced as taking on the role of the villainous Rita Repulsa. Because, y’know, Elizabeth Banks.
As the film has been chugging full steam ahead, we finally know what she’s going to look like in the film too. People has now released an image of the actress in her full Rita Repulsa costume… and I think it looks pretty cool.
Take a gander:
While the costume doesn’t look that much like her original appearance, I don’t think fans will really end up caring too much about it. The wonderfulness of Rita Repulsa is her over the top, comedic performance — and Banks definitely has the chops for that.
As long as they let her ham it up in the role, this ought to be a pretty worthy incarnation of the character.
Power Rangers is currently scheduled for a March 24, 2017 release.
We haven’t reported on most of the Power Rangers casting so far, largely because the film is full of new faces we’ll be seeing for the first time when it hits theaters in 2017 (so we have very little opinion in any direction about them). Once piece of news did hit the web today though, which does pique our interest here at Nerd & Tie: Who is playing Rita Repulsa.
It turns out that the lead villainess will be portrayed by none other than Elizabeth Banks. It was posted both to the official Power Rangers twitter account as well as Banks’s own:
Personally, I think this is perfect casting, as Banks has the comedy chops to pull off the notoriously cartoonish role.
Power Rangers comes out in US theaters March 24, 2017.
