Sylvester Stallone’s Role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Has Been Revealed

It’s been known for a while that Sylvester Stallone would appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but his exact role has been kept under wraps. All we knew is that it probably wouldn’t be a large part, though still likely a known character from the Marvel comics.

And now we know who that is.

This is the part where I give you the normal spoiler warnings. If you don’t want to know more, don’t go any further. This is your last chance to turn back.

Alright, are you sitting comfortably? Continue reading Sylvester Stallone’s Role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Has Been Revealed

James Gunn Will Write and Direct the Third ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Movie

James Gunn is ramping up to do press for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which comes out in just under three weeks. The writer and director took to Facebook earlier today to talk about it, along with some of the questions he expects to get a lot during the barrage of press junkets and interviews he’s about to engage in.

In that post, embedded above, Gunn answers a question most of us didn’t expect to get an answer to for quite some time: whether or not he would return to write and direct for the franchise’s third installment.

The answer is, of course, yes.

This is welcome news for Guardians of the Galaxy fans, as Gunn has taken what was a C-list set of Marvel comics characters and turned it into one of the biggest titles in the MCU’s lineup. Frankly, the first film was a fairly amazing space opera on its own, and to characterize it as a superhero film would be to misunderstand what makes it a great movie.

So yeah, I’m excited.

It’s All About Family in the New Trailer For Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

To say we love the movie Guardians of the Galaxy here at Nerd & Tie is an understatement, and ever since a sequel was announced we’ve been waiting with bated breath. We’ve gotten a couple of trailers so far, and last night another dropped for the film.

And it’s pretty amazing.

The trailer introduces the antagonists for the film as well as finally give us a look at Star Lord’s father at the tail end. Frankly, a lot of it is explosions set to classic rock, but that’s all we really wanted anyway. Personally, I’m pretty damned hyped.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017.

This Year’s Geeky Super Bowl Ads You May Have Missed

Look, it’s commonly accepted wisdom that only a minority of nerds and geeks really care about organized sports. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with liking sports, but it’s just not as common in our community as it is in the rest of the general populace.

That said, every year during the Super Bowl ads for things us geeks are extremely interested in debut, and we really want to see them. To help out those of you who chose to skip Sunday’s game though, we’ve rounded up most of them right here… because we’re good people.

Let’s get started then. Continue reading This Year’s Geeky Super Bowl Ads You May Have Missed

Episode 88 – Space-Opera-Palooza

On this episode of Nerd & Tie (and its triumphant return to video), we discuss Sonequa Martin-Green’s casting as the lead in Star Trek: Discovery, David Ayer potentially directing Gotham City Sirens, discuss the amazing Rogue One, contemplate the official cancellation of the con Anime Apocalypse, and examine the trailers for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

We also take the time to mock Michael Bay, but only because he deserves it.

The Second Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Teaser Has Dropped

We got the first teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 back in late October. Now Marvel Studios has released a second one… and it’s everything you’ve ever wanted in a Guardians trailer.

Namely Groot being awesome and Rocket shooting stuff.

I don’t have a lot more to add beyond mild fannish squeeing, so I’ll end my description here. Just go and watch the trailer yourself. You know you want to.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017.

Episode 84 – Just Under The Wire

On this episode of Nerd & Tie, we talk about the SAG-AFTRA strike against the biggest video game companies out there, Tim Miller exiting Deadpool 2, Donald Glover getting cast as Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo anthology film, we let Nick talk about Shin Godzilla, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 gets a teaser, Logan gets a trailer, and Pher and Nick went to some conventions.

There’s a lot packed into this one.

We Now Have The First Teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

The first Guardians of the Galaxy was our pick for the best movie of 2014. Frankly, it was just an amazing science fiction film crammed into a superhero shared universe, and it had an amazing soundtrack. Frankly, it should come as no surprise that we’re pretty hyped up about the sequel coming out next year.

And Marvel wants you to be hyped up about it too.

Yesterday they released the first teaser footage from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and it’s looking pretty damned good. What we see is the blend of action and humor we expect from the franchise… and not a lot else. I mean, it’s a teaser — if it gave away anything else, it would be doing its job wrong.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017.

Groot and Rocket Raccoon are Headed to the ISS

In the last couple years NASA has been trying to reach out to the public with pop culture references, so maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) has teamed up with Marvel for a next International Space Station Mission patch. This upcoming embroidery will feature two of the comic publishing giant’s most beloved space-faring characters.

That’s right, Groot and (a shockingly adorable) Rocket Raccoon are on this, frankly, fantastic patch.

Honestly, this is a great idea. NASA is pretty dependent on public good will for support and this should is a pretty great way to get that.

We Know What Nathan Fillion’s Cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Is

Nathan Fillion and James Gunn are good friends, and his cameo in the first Guardians of the Galaxy was the subject of a metric crap ton of speculation. While people wondered if Fillion would end up as a number of different characters in that film, his actual cameo turned out to be a minor role as a random alien prisoner (that many didn’t even notice).

But hey, it was funny.

As the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2., is currently in production, Fillion has yet again been on set to film a small part. This time around though, it’s actually a somewhat notable character… and if you want to avoid spoilers, you should probably stop reading this somewhere about here.
