Well, it’s that time of year again where we find out what shows have made the cut and which ones haven’t. Over at The CW, most of their renewals have actually already been announced, with Supernatural and the DC shows getting renewed way back in January. Riverdale and The 100 were announced to be renewed earlier this spring as well. That only leaves a few strands hanging on the only broadcast network dominated by genre television, and it seems like we have that news now.
On the good news train, The CW is officially adding a fifth DC superhero show, as Black Lightning has been picked up to series. As for existing shows, both iZombie and The Originals have been renewed. While The Originals may not be my cup of tea, iZombie is literally one of the most fun shows on television.
On the bad news front, we finally have word on the fates of freshman series Frequency and No Tomorrow. Sadly both shows have been officially cancelled and won’t be back for second seasons. It’s really too bad as both shows were fairly enjoyable. This also means that Riverdale is the only new show to get picked up at the network this year.
On this episode of the Nerd & Tie podcast we mourn the passing of Bernie Wrightson, ponder the new Justice League trailer, discuss The Flash‘s villain plans for Season Four, rejoice in the pending return of iZombie, have a good think about the Doctor Who series ten trailer, talk a bit about Iron Fist, continue to monitor the developing MST3K situation, and remind you that New York Comic Con is only offering day passes this year.
We went audio only episode, and do you think we sound different? I’m not so sure…
The return of iZombie to The CW has seemingly been taking forever, with the show’s second season ending all the way back in April of 2016. But with the third season’s premiere date coming up pretty soon, the advertising has been kicking into gear.
And now we have an extended trailer for the season.
There’s not a lot that’s surprising here for people who have watched the show (and it includes part of a scene that happens literally minutes after the season 2 finale). The show’s dark, quirky humor is on full display, along with a tease to the season’s larger arc. Frankly, this show’s return can’t come soon enough.
The CW’s iZombie, adapted from the comic of the same name, has had two very solid seasons so far, and fans have been patiently waiting for the third season to arrive. Originally it was assumed the show would be back in January, but the network decided to delay the season until some vaguely defined time in the spring.
Well, thanks to a photo posted to the official Facebook page, we now have some clarity on that — iZombie will be back April 4th.
The show will be taking over the Tuesday 9/8c timeslot from Legends of Tomorrow (which will have just finished its season), which is the same weeknight the show has aired on for the last two seasons. It’s a pretty phenomenal show, and if you haven’t checked it out yet, you can currently catch up on Netflix.
On this episodes we break things down into the Good (show renewals), the Bad (show cancellations) and the Unexpected (which is what it sounds like). Listen to and watch us celebrate iZombie, Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD all getting new seasons. Listen to us lament the loss of Constantine… and Helix.
Then we get to Red Dwarf‘s two new upcoming series, a Myst TV show, and a thoroughly unneeded third installment in Frank Miller’s Dark Knight saga.
We also share our thoughts on No Brand Con and read the biggest mailbag in a long while.
The CW’s iZombie is probably my favorite new show of this year. Adapted from the Vertigo comics by Veronica Mars‘s Rob Thomas, it follows recently turned Zombie Liv Moore (geddit?) as she… well… as she fights crime. It’s a little bit Veronica Mars, a little bit Buffy, and a whole lot of fun.
iZombie is the newest series from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas. Based off the Vertigo comic, it tells the story of Liv, a zombie who has to keep eating brains to keep herself from going… well… all Walking Dead on everyone. Rather than kill people, she gets a job as a medical examiner.
And then fights crime, like you do.
Anyway, iZombie will premiere March 17th on the CW. Here’s the trailer:
