Robert Downey Jr. is still part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he may be signing on for a shocking part in the third Captain America film. Things are looking more and more like this wont be a team-up, so much as Iron Man acting as a villain, as he was in Civil War.
Rumors of a Civil War adaptation have been circling around for years, and they’ve only intensified since Captain America: The Winter Soldier borrowed several elements from that story. But this would be a pretty dark step for such a popular character. It would also be a really ballsy move for Marvel to bust out their own “versus” movie so close to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
No lie though, I would love to see this happen.
Thanks to Random Ramblings Man for the Tip
Iron Man may have been the film to launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but according to Robert Downey Jr. you shouldn’t be expecting to see Iron Man 4 any time soon… at least not starring him.
Downey is signed on to do both the currently in production Avengers 2 and the scheduled Avengers 3 but beyond that, according to Variety, he has no plans for a fourth Iron Man solo film.
As we mentioned on the podcast yesterday, this shouldn’t be too surprising for anyone. Avengers 3 is pretty far off on the horizon, and there are really only so many solo Iron Man stories that would work well onscreen. While Robert Downey Jr. is beloved (and is the perfect Tony Stark), we all knew he’d move on from the role eventually.
And that’s probably okay, y’know?
On this episode of Nerd & Tie we talk about Marvels (lack of) plans for an Iron Man 4, the return of The Tick live action series, DashCon rebranding to “EmotiCon”, a Supergirl TV series being developed, the DC Carnival of Sadness being official policy, Dwayne Johnson and Benedict Cumberbatch’s future with DC, and our thoughts on Geek.kon.
Oh, and Nick kept losing his connection. Podcasting is fun!
