Well, it’s official – Hulu will now have their own Marvel property. Deadline is reporting that the streaming service has ordered Marvel’s Runaways to series.
Runaways is about six children of supervillains who literally run away. Based off the comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, a film was originally being developed intended for release way back in the MCU’s Phase 2 set of films, but was scrapped to refocus the film series on the Avengers.
Hulu announced they were developing Runaways for television back in August, when they commissioned a pilot. The cast looks pretty amazing for the show, and I think it will be an entertaining addition to the superhero television landscape.
Runaways is expected to premiere in 2018.
The plot of the upcoming Hulu series Runaways is that a bunch of teenagers find out their parents are literally supervillains, and decide to (you guessed it) run away. Earlier this month, Marvel announced the actors played the titular kids on the show, but now we get to know the rest.
Marvel has now introduced us to the Parents.
The members of “The Pride” will be played by Ryan Sands, Angel Parker, Brittany Ishibashi, James Yaegashi, Kevin Weisman, Brigid Brannagh, Annie Wersching, Kip Pardue, James Marsters, and Ever Carradine. It’s a pretty outstanding cast, with a lot of genre television under some of their belts.
Still no word on when the series will eventually premiere on Hulu, but it keeps looking better every day.
Marvel has now announced the cast of their forthcoming Hulu series Runaways. Based off the comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, Runaways is about six children of supervillains who, get this, run away.
The cast includes Rhenzy Feliz (Teen Wolf) as Alex Wilder, Lyrica Okano (The Affair) as Nico Minoru, Virginia Gardner (Goat) as Karolina Dean, Ariela Barer (One Day at a Time) as Gert Yorkes, Gregg Sulkin (Faking It) as Chase Stein, and Allegra Acosta (100 Things to do Before High School) as Molly Hernandez. As these are all younger characters none of these actors have huge resumes, but the diverse cast looks promising.
Runaways was originally intended to get a film way back at the beginning of the MCU’s Phase 2, but it was cancelled so the company could focus on the Avengers core of the franchise. This Hulu series was first announced last August though, and marks the first collaboration between Marvel and the Hulu streaming service.
Marvel’s just popping up all over on Televison, from the X-Men derived shows coming to FX and Fox to the Defenders corner of the MCU on Netflix to Agents of SHIELD on ABC to Cloak and Dagger on Freeform… their brand is just all over the place. That’s not even counting their kids’ shows too.
Well, another network/service is getting a crack at a Marvel show now, with the latest report being that a Runaways pilot is being produced for Hulu.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will showrun the series, and beyond the pilot additional scripts have been commissioned as well. While it’s too bad we won’t see Runaways on the big screen, it’s nice to know we’ll get some version soon.
