Haven Season 5 Gets Premiere Date

Haven, Syfy’s supernatural drama, finally has a date for coming back. Cast member Eric Balfour tweeted out the following yesterday:

Season 5 will pick up immediately after the Season 4 cliffhanger’s ending, and personally I’m looking forward to the show’s return.

The theme song is already going through my head.

Trailer for Syfy’s TV Adaptation of 12 Monkeys is… very 12 Monkeysish?

So January of 2015 will see the twelve episode television adaptation of the Terry Gilliam cult classic 12 Monkeys air on Syfy. I don’t know how I feel about someone remaking a Terry Gilliam movie, especially as a Syfy TV series.

Aaron Stanford will star as Cole, the part originally played by Bruce Willis. While I don’t think I ever would have thought of Nikita‘s Stanford as a believable replacement for Bruce Willis in anything, he is a talented actor… so I have hope?

I have hope.

Anyway, Syfy has put out an official trailer for the upcoming series, and at least by trailer standards, it looks pretty cool.

Episode 25 – Revivals Both Wanted And Not

In this barely assembled edition of the podcast, we talk about Pacific Rim 2, Heroes of Cosplay’s awfulness, Harmony Gold’s ridiculous Robotech Academy Kickstarter, Community getting a sixth season and the new Sailor Moon series “Sailor Moon Crystal.”

And, y’know, we read your letters.

That may not seem like much, but trust me, it is.

Also, please remember that next fortnight we’re actually doing a “best of” episode instead of a regular one. If there are any parts of this first year of Nerd & Tie you’d like to see featured, tell us (including the episode title and the timecode of the bit you liked) in our contact form!

Heroes of Cosplay: Now Only Mostly Awful

In Which Trae Talks About Season 1.5 of Heroes of Cosplay

I have been working conventions for almost twenty years, and have helped put on a cosplay contest for the last nine in varying capacities. I admittedly haven’t been a serious cosplayer myself since I gave it up about a decade ago, but it’s still a world I’m heavily immersed in.

So needless to say I’ve been watching Heroes of Cosplay since episode one.

…but not because I like it. I’ve been watching Heroes of Cosplay for the same reason you might have eavesdropped on someone gossiping about your friends back in High School: So I know exactly what’s being said.

The bullscat filled “Season 1.5” finale aired last night though, so (as I did last year) I thought I’d gather my thoughts about the entire season.

…and why no convention should allow Heroes of Cosplay in the door. Continue reading Heroes of Cosplay: Now Only Mostly Awful

At This Point Heroes of Cosplay Is Just Flat Out Lying

The first half of Heroes of Cosplay’s two part finale for “Season 1.5” aired last night on Syfy. Both episodes will feature Wizard World’s New Orleans Comic Con, and the first of these contained probably the biggest flat out lie the show has ever tried to sell.

And it’s downright puzzling.

You see, Yaya Han (or as we call her around here, Sentient Lumber) states that the con has two cosplay contests on two different days. One is a contest for groups, the other for individuals. There’s just one problem with that:

This con only had one contest. And there are literally hundreds of witnesses who can attest to this. Continue reading At This Point Heroes of Cosplay Is Just Flat Out Lying

Episode 23 – Call them BishouBros.

On this fortnight’s installment we talk about the return of Heroes of Cosplay, Ant Man’s director shuffle, Fantasic Four books leaving shelves just as Fox works on the film, a possible Stargate reboot, everyone freaking out about Michael Bay’s Evangelion comments, progress on Pacific Rim 2, and the second season of the (My) Immortal webseries.

That, and we’ve come up with a term for insecure dudes who like Sailor Moon.

Episode 11 – The Best of 2013!

In this fortnight’s episode we talk about Disney’s new television show with horrible implications, Ant Man finally getting a lead actor, Scott Lobdell being a douchecanoe – and our best and worst picks for 2013.

Because it’s just about over.

Because it’s December.

You really should have known that already.

Episode 9 – Live at Daisho Con!

Our ninth installment was recorded live at Daisho Con 2013 in the Wisconsin Dells! We talk about Thor 2, the (sadly) continued existence of Heroes of Cosplay, the Night of the Doctor and, since we recorded this hours before the real 50th Anniversary Doctor Who episode aired, we make up what happened in the special.

It’s fun.

Episode 3 – More Raccoon

On this installment of Nerd & Tie we talk about casting for both Guardians of the Galaxy and Man of Steel 2, Heroes of Cosplay’s legal problems, Geek.kon 2013, season 5 of Community and the recent announcements made by Nintendo.

Also, if you or anyone else you know is Canadian, please let us know by clicking on our contact form. Especially if you’re Vomit Hat Steve.

Episode 2 – Declassified

On the second episode of Nerd & Tie, Pher, Nick and Trae discuss the leaked Guardians of the Galaxy footage, the midwest regional Con scene, the Patlabor live action film, the declassification of Area 51… and the new Syfy reality series Heroes of Cosplay.

Also, Nick says the Patlabor OVA is on Hulu, but he’s lying. The TV series is though.

Trae also keeps calling the F-117 the “F-115” because he is dumb.
