Episode 81 – Second Chances

On this episode of Nerd & Tie we celebrate 50 years of Star Trek, contemplate the possibility of the late Majel Barret-Rodenberry still voicing the computer in future Treks, rejoice in the Build Team’s return to ‘Busting in The White Rabbit Project, discuss Stranger Things and its season 2 renewal, and consider the possible remake of The Crow starring Jason Momoa.

And there’s that whole Nerd & Tie Expo thing coming up…

Jason Momoa Will Star in Reboot of ‘The Crow’

1994’s The Crow (based off the comic of the same name by James O’Barr) is considered a cult classic by many, and not just because the star Brandon Lee died during the film’s production. Sequels and a short lived television series followed, though none really captured the magic of that first 1994 film.

But this is Hollywood, and that never stopped anyone from trying again.

In fact, they’ve been trying to reboot The Crow franchise since around 2008, and a half dozen different actors have been attached to the project over the last eight years. But after sitting in development hell for so long, it seems like the remake will finally see the light of day.

According to The Wrap, The Crow will go into production in early 2017, with Colin Hardy and none other than Jason Momoa taking over the role of Eric Draven.

Momoa is best known to fans from his work in Game of Thrones, that Conan reboot no one saw, and Stargate: Atlantis. Oh, and he’s that and he’s totally Aquaman in DC’s current film franchise.

This new version of The Crow supposedly will adhere more closely to the source material than the 1994 film, and not just be a direct remake of the Brandon Lee film. Like most remakes and rehashes these days, I’m not sure how much the world needs a new The Crow film, but we’re going to get it whether we want it or not. At least with Momoa in the role, we know a talented actor will be playing the part (even if it means he’s concurrently playing two separate comic book heroes on screen at once).
