Category Archives: The Nerd & Tie Podcast

Updated fortnightly, the Nerd & Tie Podcast dives into our geeky world head first. Nick, Trae and Gen go into indepth discussions on all topics nerdy and geeky, and hope to come out with something interesting at the end. Usually they do.

Special: The Secret Podcasts Part 2

On this episode of the Nerd & Tie podcast — we dig out our biggest secrets. Those would, of course, be The Secret Podcasts. For those unaware, we often record secret ten minute shows while at cons which get posted to a hidden part of the site. Rather than make you hunt for them though, we’ve created this special with a handful of episodes that’s now temporarily available.

Your normal programming returns in a week (when this episode disappears from the site), so enjoy it while you can.

Special: ‘Doctor Who’ Casts Jodie Whittaker as 13th Doctor

On this SPECIAL EPISODE of Nerd & Tie which we weren’t expecting to actually record, we discuss the casting of Doctor Who‘s thirteenth Doctor. Jodie Whittaker will be taking over as the eponymous Time Lord, and we share our thoughts, how parts of the internet lost their collective minds (due to more than one X chromosome), and then dig into a bunch of Doctor Who randomness to fill time!

Also, we’re sorry it’s a little quiet — we’re still trying to get the sound right in the new studio.

Episode 102 – The Grand Switcheroo

On this (audio only) episode of the Nerd & Tie podcast, we celebrate Wonder Woman‘s victory at the box office, give a spoiler-free review of Spider-Man: Homecoming, ponder HBO developing a Watchmen television show, and consider the ramifications of Phil Lord and Chris Miller getting booted from the (still untitled) Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film. Then we hit the con scene, where Titan Fan Con messed up big time, and Emerald City Comicon finally settled their “minions/volunteer” lawsuit.

This is also the first episode recorded from the new production studio, so please forgive our settling in.

Episode 101 – The Mid-Move Mess

On this episode of Nerd & Tie we deal with the ongoing move of our production studio, mourn the passing of Adam West, go through the highlights of E3, discuss the changes coming to Pokemon Go, review the confusing situation surrounding the Venom movie (and how it MIGHT still be MCU adjacent), and consider Wizard World’s money problems.

There are a few technical difficulties in the video too, but at least the audio version is largely clean?

Episode 100 – Stumbling Towards Milestones

On this, the one hundredth episode of Nerd & Tie, our heroes give our review of DC’s Wonder Woman movie, discuss how said film was banned in Lebanon, celebrate 40 years of Star Wars, and continued to get confused by the ongoing progress on Sony’s Venom movie. Then we take on the con scene, where ColossalCon forced Colossus Con to rebrand, and Phoenix Comicon narrowly avoided tragedy.

Yeah, it gets a little dark at the end.

Episode 99 – All Washed Out

On this fortnight’s episode of Nerd & Tie we discuss the new Star Trek: Discovery trailer, Netflix making a Witcher television series, Mystery Science Theater 3000‘s twenty-nine city live tour, and then move onto the convention scene. And the con scene was busy these last two weeks, with Great Lakes Fur Con cancelling due to “Staffing Issues,” Duke City Comic Con organizer Jim Burleson putting his foot in his mouth again, and Space City Comic Con rebranding (and weirdly lying about it).

It’s another long one.

Episode 98 – Never Break the Chain

On this episode of Nerd & Tie, Trae rambles incoherently for ten minutes about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. After that, we discuss how Stan Lee has (probably) been playing Uatu in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, lament Young Justice and Titans getting shunted off onto yet another streaming service, and then tackle this fortnight’s convention news.

In the con scene, Midwest Media Expo got cancelled days before their event, Missouri’s Oz Con had to be cancelled mid event due to historic flooding, and police are looking for information about a Maryland man who allegedly has been soliciting sex from minors at cons.

It’s a doozy.

Episode 97 – Live at No Brand Con 2017!

On this (audio only) episode of Nerd & Tie, your three hosts have gathered in the Wisconsin Dells to do an episode of the show live at No Brand Con 2017! We discuss the first trailer for The Last Jedi, celebrate the return of Mystery Science Theater 3000, contemplate Monica Valentinelli and Tad William’s withdrawal from Odyssey Con, and marvel at the fall of Rocky Mountain Fur Con.

We were tight on time, so there’s not a lot of audience interaction – but we did remember to mock Arcemise.

He deserved it.

Episode 96 – Complete Con Chaos

On this, our officially longest ever episode of Nerd & Tie, we celebrate Invader Zim‘s impending return, discuss John Simm’s returning as The Master on Doctor Who, lose our minds over the New Warriors television show (featuring Squirrel Girl), contemplate Rainn Wilson’s casting as Harry Mudd on Star Trek: Discovery, and speculate on the possibility of a Joss Whedon written/directed Batgirl movie.

Then we tackle the con scene, where Angry Goat Productions continues to do things that are absolutely insane, and AnachroCon’s management seems to have devolved into complete anarchy. We also talk about the great time we had at Karoshi Con, and look forward to No Brand Con.

Plus, y’know, there’s a mailbag. This episode is just full of stuff.

Episode 95 – A Pair of (April) Fools

On this episode of the Nerd & Tie podcast we mourn the passing of Bernie Wrightson, ponder the new Justice League trailer, discuss The Flash‘s villain plans for Season Four, rejoice in the pending return of iZombie, have a good think about the Doctor Who series ten trailer, talk a bit about Iron Fist, continue to monitor the developing MST3K situation, and remind you that New York Comic Con is only offering day passes this year.

We went audio only episode, and do you think we sound different? I’m not so sure…
