Is “Adulthood” a Myth?

Veering off course from our usual geeky topics, on this episode of The Off Week we discuss how the phrase “grow up” is effectively meaningless, and how the concept of “Maturity” is a fiction we tell ourselves to make ourselves feel better. Or something.

I promise it’s not that dark, really.

Are Conventions Liminal Spaces?

So as I sit in the vendor hall for Anime Central 2016 waiting for it to open Sunday morning, I’m left pondering the reality (or unreality) of conventions. Do they exist as real geographical locations, or are they almost liminal spaces?

Webcomics A-Z Panel @ No Brand Con 2016

On this installment of The Off Week, rather than spend seven to ten minutes with Trae talking about something… how about spending almost a full hour with Trae talking about something? That’s right, this installment is most of Trae’s “Webcomics A-Z” panel from this year’s No Brand Con.

The panel is a basic primer on starting a webcomic, from both the creative and technical end, and it’s totally worth watching if you want to get into the (completely non-lucrative) industry.

Our ‘Rogue One’ Trailer Reaction

So the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story came out a few days ago. It’s the first trailer for the first Star Wars Anthology film, so Trae naturally has quite a few thoughts on the subject… so we turned it into an episode of The Off Week.

Trae also reacts to the reaction… including some ridiculous Dudebros who are already crying Mary Sue even though literally no one has seen the movie yet.

Because they’re totally not being sexist or something. And we totes believe them.

Is ‘Batman v Superman’ Any Good?

On this installment of The Off Week, Trae digs into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Secret Infinity Wars of Crisis Justice (or whatever) and tells you whether or not it’s worth going out and seeing it.

Spoiler: The answer is “maybe.” But he’ll give you his reasons.

Is ‘The X-Files’ Just a Dream? The Elliot Carlin Theory

We’ve all heard of the Tommy Westphall Theory of television — where many of the shows across TV history take place in the mind of St. Elsewhere’s autistic Tommy Westphall. But what if that’s too simple — what if these shows fell into not one, but TWO realities: One the “real” world, and the other a “dream” world forming that reality’s collective unconscious? I call it the Elliot Carlin Theory, and I swear it even makes sense.

Why Do Some Cons Invent Fake Staffers?

So this last week I posted an article about how Wine Country Comic Con was spamming Facebook using a fake account with stolen pictures. It’s not the first time I’ve seen this, but it’s still really weird to me. In this installment of The Off Week I ponder why the heck some cons do this in the first place.

(More on the WCCC fake staffer)
