Episode 76 – Everything is Terrible

On this episode of Nerd & Tie we discuss the tragic loss of young actor Anton Yelchin, the rather craptastic new fan film guidelines put out for Star Trek by Paramount and CBS, The CW leaving Hulu behind, Tyler Hoechlin’s casting as Superman on Supergirl, the new Ghostbusters theme by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott, and how Wizard World finally came to their senses and cancelled their ridiculous cruise.

And yeah, the video on this version is pretty janky thanks to a software upgrade. We swear we’ll fix it for next time.

The New Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott ‘Ghostbusters’ Theme is Here

With the a new Ghostbusters movie there must, of course, be a new Ghostbusters theme song. And like everything else about the Paul Feig directed franchise reboot, it both borrows from the original while taking it in a different direction.

Performed by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott, the song, “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid),” is one part cover of the Ray Parker Jr. song… one part Fall Out Boy song. I happen to like Fall Out Boy, so I don’t really mind. Honestly, it’s mostly just a cover with the classic bass line changed. Since the original song pretty much stole its bass line from Huey Lewis and the New song “I Want a New Drug” (there was a whole legal thing, look it up), that’s really to be expected.

Honestly, the song is the least important detail of the new movie, and I can see some people not liking it. But honestly, nothing is going to be as good as the original song or pull on your nostalgia as much, so it’s unfair to hold it to that standard.

But take a listen and tell us what you think.

Ghostbusters hits theaters July 15, 2016.
