Chosen Part Four – “Technical Difficulties”

In this fourth episode of Chosen, we review the language changes and additions to the Valleybrook Constitution in 2014 vs. 2016. Then Jodie shares the story of Matthew Mitchell’s rise and fall in the staff ranks at Valleybrook.

While listening to the episode, make note: there does exist in Christianity the concept of an identity in Christ-described generally as who you’re supposed to be on the inside as a spiritual being when you strip away personalities and interests. However, a “God-Created Identity” is essentially the opposite of that and focuses on those personalities and interests that would normally be stripped down from the conversation. In Matthew’s case, his “-God-Created Identity” was supposed to be things like “tech director” and “youth group leader volunteer” and “patient” and “generous” and “hardworking”…lots of things he had to DO or BE. According to Matthew, while it was taught at Valleybrook that your “God-Created Identity” came from God it was more often the case that Doug would be able to “see you” and “see” who you were supposed to be in your “God-Created Identity.”
