Simon Pegg Co-Writing Next Star Trek

Since we heard that Robert Orci was completely out of the third Abramsverse Star Trek film, the question “who will write the film?” has been kind of dangling out there. Well, it looks like we finally have an answer.

According to Deadline, Simon Pegg will be penning the script along with writer Doug Jung.

Simon Pegg, of course, we all know as Scotty in the rebooted franchise, but unless you’ve been living under a rock you’re familiar with some of his writing credits too (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Paul, The World’s End, etc). Doug Jung’s credits aren’t quite as impressive, but he’s written… stuff. Like Dark Blue.

Yeah it’s not exciting, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be up for the job.

Honestly, this gives me hope for the project. Pegg is a massive geek who I think truly understands the franchise. It’s kind of funny though to think that back when Abrams was rebooting the franchise, Pegg almost said no to playing Scotty because he thought it was too intimidating.

Now he’s writing the actual lines.
