Lionsgate Adapting Movie Version of the ‘The Monolith’

Hollywood seems determined to scrape every idea they can from the comics industry these days, so it should come as no surprise to find out that Lionsgate is now adapting the comic The Monolith for the big screen. Dave Wilson will direct the film, with Erwin Stoff producing.

This feature will be Wilson’s directorial debut, though he’s the Creative Director at Tim Miller’s Blur Studio (Miller having directed Deadpool of course). Wilson also worked previously on videogames like Mass Effect 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Spanning twelve issues (published in the mid-2000s), The Monolith was created by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti. The titular “Monolith” is a golem created in the 1930s, who as sealed away in a basement until its creator passes away and her granddaughter Alice inherits the house, discovering it. As the comic is a self contained story, it shouldn’t be too difficult to adapt the modern day retelling of the golem legend.

If it’s done right, this could be pretty great.
